Reboxetine

Reboxetine is most commonly known by the brand names Edronax or Davedax and it is an anti-depressant drug known as a selective noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitor (SNRI) which works on nerve cells in the brain. It is used in the treatment of clinical depression, panic disorders and ADD / ADHD.

Noradrenaline is a neurotransmitter and when it is released from nerve cells into the brain it lightens our mood plus various other functions. It is eventually re-absorbed into the nerve brain cells and can no longer effect mood. It is thought that when depression occurs, there may be a decreased amount of noradrenaline released from nerve cells in the brain.

Reboxetine works by preventing noradrenaline from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain. This helps prolong the mood lightening effect of any released noradrenaline thus relieving conditions such as depression.

It may take between two to four weeks for the benefits of this medicine to appear, so it is very important that you keep taking it, even if it doesn't seem to make much difference at first. The usual initial dosage is 4mg once or twice a day. If you feel your depression has got worse, or if you have any distressing thoughts or feelings in these first few weeks, then you should talk to your doctor. Other side effects have included headache, early awakening, dry mouth and constipation.

There could be an interference with other anti-depressants, especially MAO inhibitors like Gerovital H3. It may also interfere with noradrenaline enhancers like Olmifon or Modafinil so check with your physician before taking. Reboxetine reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. This medicine could affect you in a way that makes driving or operating machinery becomes unsafe.
